Brownsville Revival, a Response

by Rosa L. Knickelbine

In response to the article, "Brownsville Revival, an Analysis", the following letter was received.

While I saw some good things on your website to glean from, I was concerned about the article concerning the Brownsville revival.  Now, I personally don't believe opinion is blasphemy, but I didn't agree with the author of this article.

For approximately 2 years and 2 months I served at the Brownsville Revival. While there were some things I questioned which may have been in the flesh, a religious spirit, or even perhaps egotism, I personally experienced and saw other things I knew very definitely to be of God.  Originally I went to this revival out of a desire to 'worship', and had been back and forth to this Church over the years because the worship style was somewhat freer and the presence of God was there, and it was sweet.

I was also healed emotionally of a broken heart and a root of bitterness due to some family problems, and the joy of my salvation was restored to me at the beginning of my time there.  I will not go into the reasons why I left, My God the God of Heaven knows 1) why he allowed me to be a part (and it was a dual purposed situation), and 2) why He had me to leave and I don't want to talk about that, except to say that while I do believe in fervency, fire, love, and Holy Passion, there must be balance in our lives as well, at least for me. But I do want to admonish the author of the "Analysis" article that even with all of their intellect and scriptural knowledge, they may want to "loosen their tie" a bit.

God does indeed touch His people, and He is not impressed with dead tradition and formalism any more than He is NONSENSE. However, He WILL meet anyone who is seeking and searching for Him with their whole heart, and that means people that have gone to Brownsville looking - with their lives a mess and a muck. He will reveal himself to them amidst what is happening whether there is error or not. I haven't found a church or denomination without some error, but I do find a cold dead religious service  more disgustingly unappealing then someone falling down or laughing uncontrollably (what a horrible thing to do).

I know that at Brownsville there is not a bunch of Sign Seekers!  Most of the people I know there truly love the Lord with all their hearts.  And some of the things described I personally have never heard or even seen at Brownsville at all!

I am sorry, but the Word of God is full of "weird" things; from people being accused of being drunk with wine when they were under the influence of the Holy Spirit,  to disappearing and reappearing two or three cities away; from God riding through the heavens to someone's rescue on winged creatures, to wheels with eyes.  It is a book of supernatural phenomenon, my "Word Brother", we are talking about a God who is building a city that He is going to drop out of heaven for us. Don't you think we might possibly experience something we can't explain in our rational thinking?  Do you think the Apostle Paul's experience was recorded somewhere?  Or what about the annunciation to Mary, that was in the Old Testament and she still wasn't believed?  If the Messiah were to be born to this generation though, I suppose a nowaday Mary would be a false prophetess and delusional as well.

I believe there is room for improvement in all Churches and I do understand the need for discernment, but do you understand?  It does work both ways.

Sincerely-in-Christ,

Rosa L. Knickelbine

PS The church needs to stop all this quibbling over this kind of stuff and get on their face before God for this Nation. If someone has to shake or fall down to get it right and walk straight, so be it. We are facing serious hard times, and we need to join hands in the battle before some things began to happen and we wished we had been "praying" instead of writing dissertations on the evils of so called false doctrine - what is of God and what is not, and/or what started when and stopped when (apostolic).   We need to be preaching and praying in repentance for this nation and not finding fault with places where repentance is being established.
