The ministry position described here will provide opportunity for experience and development for a Ministerial Intern, and at the same time benefit the church with the ministry gifts and abilities brought by this intern. An effort will be made to provide for a breadth of ministry activities with supervision provided regularly by the church's Pastor and Associate Pastor. Initially, ministry activities will be simple servant tasks, with an expansion of responsibility as growth and promise are developed. In the selection of these ministries, attention will be given to the needs currently perceived at the church, as well as the gifts brought to the church by the person called to this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

This Ministerial Intern will have a self-awareness of receiving a call from the Lord for his/her ministry, having had that call confirmed by others in the Body of Christ.

He will be moving in the direction of seeking credentials either with the denomination or a similar organization with a compatible docrtinal statement.

He will have had received formal training for ministry, and some experience in a variety of ministries in a local church setting.

He will possess, or be developing the following:

    1) a teachable spirit, desiring to grow as a person and as a leader;

    2) a willingness to involve others in planning and decision-making;

    3) an integrity of person, and a demonstration of those character qualities that are represented by the list of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23, and a willingness to continue to grow in the development of such characteristics;

    4) a pattern of spiritual growth that is evidenced by a life of prayer, personal obedience to the Word of God and the proven ability to discern the Lord's will and guidance in decision making;

    5) a basic understanding of the nature and operation of the church that is informed by Scripture and, in broad terms, compatible with that of the Pastoral staff;

    6) an understanding of his ministry that is being developed through disciplined times of reading and studying the Word, as well as related books and periodicals.

This Ministerial Intern will seek to be faithful in seeking the Lord in his own life, always striving to keep Christ the vital focal point in life.

EXPECTATIONS

1. The Ministerial Intern will conduct himself in such a way that his behavior, speech and attitudes represent a high standard of holiness. He will strive to live in such a way as to bring utmost respect to his office.

2. He will demonstrate a strong sense of loyalty to the Pastor and other members of the church's leadership team, endeavoring to be cooperative in the carrying out of his ministry tasks. When differences of opinion or problems arise in the performing of his work or relationships, the Ministerial Intern will always speak first of these matters in private conversation with the Pastor. Should an occasion arise in which he feels that his concerns are not being adequately addressed, he may request a meeting with the Deacons of the church, along with the Pastor.

3. The Ministerial Intern will keep the Senior Pastor and/or his Secretary apprised of his where abouts at all times during those times he is considered to be "on duty".

4. He will keep regular work hours which will include time for prayer and study. This schedule will be approved by the Pastor, and determined according to the availability of hours in relation to other work responsibilities.

6. Keep careful records for all activities related to his ministry assignments.

7. Maintain faithful attendance with appropriate attire at regularly scheduled worship services.

8. By virtue of his ministry position, the Ministerial Intern will be listed as an active member in the congregation

Specifically the expectations relative to the initial ministries will involve such things as:

    1) Provide a Special Music selection, generally at an average of once each month.

    2) Assist with the creation and implementing of a youth worship leadership team.

    3) Obtain a CDL driver's license in order to be a member of the church bus driving team picking up children and youth for weekly ministry. (The License process will be at the church's expense)

    4) When requested, offer leadership of worship along with other members of the church.

    5) In partnership with present leadership, help oversee the running of the church's sound system.

    6) Assist singers in their preparation for special music.

    7) Make visitation calls to specified members or contacts related to the church, and assist with the Nursing Home ministry when work schedules permit.

    8) Assist with setting up areas for various church functions such as special meetings, fellowship events or concerts.

    9) Meet for prayer prior to each service.

In addition, the Ministerial Intern may be asked to assist with other areas of the church's ministry. These may include programs for ministry such as children's ministry, youth ministry, ministry with young adults, outreach programs, Home Fellowships, Bible Studies, or Prayer Meetings, or any other areas assigned by the Pastor. When finalized, a description of these assignments will be added to this document.

The Ministerial Intern will be prepared to carry out any request of the Senior Pastor that is commonly understood to be a function related to pastoral ministry, or is supportive to the overall ministry goals of the church, provided adequate time for discussion is given to assure that the carrying out of such requests will not unnecessarily impinge upon other duties and responsibilities. Under normal conditions, such requests may include, but not be limited to, the following:

    1) Preaching and/or teaching before either the entire congregation or designated groups within or without the church.

    2) Assist with various matters related to worship services and special events.

    3) Attend committee meetings, according to the suggestion or approval of the Pastor.

    4) Be available as a resource person to Deacons as specifically assigned by the Pastor.

    5) Provide leadership for specified short-term projects.

    6) Make phone and/or personal contact with members in crisis situations or in need of a follow-up visit.

    7) Assist with general office duties during those days when a Secretary is not present.

The Ministerial Intern will respond to such requests when either originating from the Pastor or having his explicit approval.

OPPORTUNITIES

* He will be assigned office space and a couple of hours of secretarial support each week.

* He will have opportunity to initiate new ministries within the church, under the guidance of the Pastor.

* He will be free to take time away from his church responsibilities as needed, as long as timely arrangements are made with the Pastor, and ministry responsibilities are provided for during his absence.

* He will be invited to attend Sectional Ministerial meetings, including the Annual Council.

* He will be reimbursed for use of his automobile according to a plan worked out by the Pastor and Deacon Board.

ACCOUNTABILITY

* Primarily responsible to the Lord, performing ministry and leadership with enthusiasm and seeking to please Him.

* Secondarily, accountable to the Pastor. The Ministerial Intern will keep the Pastor fully informed of his work, seek counsel and take instructions or corrections from the Pastor when necessary. This will primarily take place during a conference with the Pastor, scheduled each week as the Pastor's schedule permits. He will confer with the Pastor about personal matters dealt with, to the extent that this information will aid the Pastor in the fulfilling of his oversight of the church's ministry. These sessions will also provide opportunity for discussions concerning personal and ministry related issues brought up either by the Ministerial Intern or the Pastor.

* A more substantial quarterly conference with the Pastor. This will involve discussion of goals, program plans, resources needed, obstacles, calendar items, evaluation of ministry, and itemization of current reading.

* An annual review based on: a self evaluation along with that of the Pastor. This evaluation will be based on this job description.
