Do you see areas where your leaders could use some improvement? You can
help them develop specific skills by using personal development plans
similar to those used in the business world. These plans form an
individualized training program that’s focused specifically on the areas
that need a boost.
First have your leaders go through the following steps and write down
their answers for each section. Give them time to think through the
answers carefully. Then sit down with them one-on one to make sure they’re
on track and to see what areas you can help them with.
Subject: What do you want to improve?
Objective: What do you want to accomplish?
Goals: How will you measure your improvement?
Problems: What barriers or obstacles might you encounter as you implement
your plan?
Solutions: How will you deal with those problems?
Resources: What equipment, materials, and people will you need to help
implement your plan?
Activities: What are the steps, in order, that are required to bring about
the desired change? When specifically will they be accomplished?
Costs: What costs are involved to accomplish the action plan?
Benefits: What are the benefits, both intangible and financial, of
acquiring this skill?
