How I Was Able to Quit Smoking

The fellow who was instrumental in my coming to Jesus had also been a rabid non smoker. Before coming to Jesus, he had simply decided to quit smoking one day and that was it. I had always thought it would be neat to be able to do that, but was never so fortunate. I tried lots of times to quit.

One time I had to start smoking again because I couldn't afford to quit. I had gained 2 pant sizes in one week. After making Jesus Lord of my life I was periodically hounded by this guy about smoking. He said, "Christians shouldn't smoke! It's a bad witness!"

To which I responded "When God wants me to quit, He'll tell me Himself!"

About two month's later I was on a construction job at the Tahsis pulp mill in Gold River, BC. And I was staying in the Gold River Chalet. I had my room to myself. After work one evening, I was sitting in my room reading my Bible, trying to figure this Christianity stuff out. I had a carton of cigarettes on the desk in front of me with one pack out. And that pack was just to my left.

Anyway, just as I was about to have a smoke, I heard a voice say, "Howdya like to quit?" I looked around the room and there was nobody there.

So I said, "What, now?"

He said, "Yeah now."

I said, "OK, you take away the desire and I'll quit." He did, and I quit. That was about 20 years ago. And I've seen others quit as easily since.

No one else that I know of has heard the audible voice of God like I did, but, they have been able to quit knowing that God was there to help with the cravings.
